Helly and I then found Curio Bay! This wild and mostly uninhabited part of the South Island is just breathtaking!

Yes it's all very well but you haven't mentioned what rock type it is! Looks like sandstone (or possibly limestone?) to me. Isn't this the place they have Petrified logs lying around? Next time you go to such a lovely place must forget just taking a stunning photo and do a full rock analysis instead. ;o). Seriously - lovely shot including the splash. Does it remind you of Aran? It does me, but maybe if you see the fuller picture of the area it wouldn't so much. (and of course it's all limestone in Aran!). xxx

@YouKnowWho: Ahhh...ever the geologist Sis!! If you go to this post you will saee the very Petrified Forrest you are talking about.
It very much reminded me of Aran though you are right in guessing the surrounding area was not that similar.
Thanks for poping by my lovely Sis!!XXX

A beautiful shot - and the kelp just adds that extra element to the rocks. This looks like a really special place to visit.

Great, great capture! I love that big splash against the rocks and the water is such an amazing color. I'd love to explore the tide pools on the rocks, but the sea looks a bit rough and unpredictable. What a great place to visit, you lucky duck!

beautiful rugged coastline, much similar to the South West corner of Australia close to where I live... you even got a wave crashing through in there - very nicely composed and captured!
