Alpine Gorge

Posted by Linerberry (Christchurch, New Zealand) on 5 August 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

View from the Trans Alpine Train from Christchurch on the East coast to Graymouth on the West coast. It takes a special journey through the Southern Alps which are spectacular at any time of the year. The train takes about 6 hours and runs once a day both ways. I've done this trip 3 times in as many years and I'm sure I'll be doing it again!!

wow! love this view!!! all the highs and lows! the grasses an trees, the water, snaking through the composition... just gorgeous!

@dj.tigersprout: Thanks dj. It is a spectacular trip and it really doesn't matter what time of year either, its just that its warmer from the viewing platform in the summer ha ha. You have to be a hardened photographer or a nut case in the winter, I think I might be the latter:-))

Kylie Greenan from Richmond, Australia

Wow Liners it looks beautiful! I gather that's snow near the winding river? (Sorry, don't get it here anywhere near me so it's a bit of)... I like the contrast of the blues and greens. 6 hours on a train! OMG! brave girl :o)

5 Aug 2008 6:11am

@Kylie Greenan: Hay thanks Kylie. It is simply stunning. Its not snow though I'm afraid, its kind of an off white shingle/sand. I have to admit to taking this last Summer, as I said to dj, its a lot warmer on the viewing platform!!! Actually i think it may only be 5hours, but you don't notice the time cos there is just so much to see, thanks again:-))

Have little web time - a quick flick but I LOVE THEM I weep over mountains and sea, "OOH " at the flowers, glee and aw! at the spiders and their webs -dear friends of mine- thanks for sharing it all. Your sunrise after work reminded me of walking to work in Nairobi to be met by the golden globe resting on the horizon. Auntie Christina
